The clean channel on the mkIII is spectacular.. And the attenuation works nicely. I'd go with that.

MK 1 for me , fantastic master book, no need for attenuator , cute clean aqueduct and effects loop is keen , simply use one buffered pedal . Has every decade and amount of dirt on gain knob . Reverb is beautifully controllable with a 12AU7 valve/tube .

I've had both the I and II. I recall the proceeds on the II might exist better for heavier stuff. But the I is a dandy sounding amp. Better cleans on the II, but that's subjective. The efx loop on the I is definitely an result depending on what efx yous employ. The input impedance on the loop is depression if I remember correctly.

Too my experience was the Mk Two gain channel sounded just "ok" thru V30's, only sounded glorious thru G25 and G30 greenbacks.
My mkii sounds the all-time through my 77 slant with 55hz 30 watt Blackbacks on top and V30's on bottom. Information technology's a bright cab and it balances the Rockerverbs low mid focus. Next would be my 1960ax with Chinese Greenbacks and last would be the matching Orange PPC412 with V30's. Likewise night for the Mkii but peradventure that's the cab construction rather than the speakers.

The consensus is that the MkIII is the all-time RV amp made yet. There will exist one off folks who recall their MKI or IIs are better, but the MKIII fixes only about all of the issues that the majority of folks had with the previous versions.

Does the gain knob on the mark Ii accept the same awesome taper as the mark I? I really liked the huge gain range on the RV50mk1 proceeds knob, could go from virtually clean to mean. Much more range than your average once more knob. I oasis't see this again, till I got my Soldano HR25.

The RV50 mk1 I had, had some of the bad batch of Alpha potentiometers. I would presume virtually of those that had that consequence would have been fixed by now.

I don't remember the taper that well on the MKii, just I certainly don't call up it every bit a problem. Always liked the gain on the Orangish amps (i and ii). Put a Proctavia in front of information technology and get endless controllable feedback that blossoms and gets the octave overtones, awesome- I miss that sound.

I have the Mk 1 and it's been my go to amp for a long time. I much prefer the 6v6 audio and the reverb on this amp....plus these were also fabricated in the UK (if that matters to some). The overdrive channel just sounds great.

Having both a MK1 and an Mk3 I tin can tell you that both are exellent amps. A lot of people take negative things to say about the MK1 but I personally like the MkI best. I've heard that the Mk1 was the most costly amp to produce that Orange ever made. Information technology has some really absurd and unusual features that the MK2 and MK3 don't take. The MK1 can run a variety of power-tubes EL-34/6CA7 and 6L6/KT88/6550 considering it has an output selector which almost makes it like two different amps. The MK2 & MK3 can't practice that. I suspect Orange decided to cut the cost of production by removing that feature and opted to tell a story about the reverb being improved on the 2 & 3.

Had a Mk2 for a while and changeing the output tubes was a feature. Tried it with 6L6's El34'southward 6Ca7'due south Kt88's. Kt88's sounded best for huge cleans 34's for dirt and 6L6's a happy medium. Biggest improvement was replacing the V30's with a single EV12L.

Dude resurrected an quondam thread to say Mk I is where information technology's at.
I've owned a couple of the Rockerverbs. Peachy amps, particularly for the ~$grand they become for used.

I thought the MKII could do that too.

The 50w MKI couldn't though - instead of a output valve bias switch, it had a high or low damping switch.

It makes a large difference to the feel of the RV50 MKI, a very smashing feature.

I almost bought a Rocker 30 years ago, but I was told it had a lot less gain than the Rockerverb.

On that note, I saw the Thunderverb 50 today. It has one channel with the single tone 'shape' knob and and another with a 3-ring EQ. But I'one thousand dislocated which channel has the shape knob and which has the EQ?

100% definitely less gain its very dry and boring the rocker 30. The rockerverb is more saturated in full crunch and is clearer at the same time. I prefer rockerverb I would get some other th30 or dual terror over the rocker 30 every time

Mark III if your heart is assail a rockerverb. And test out a CR120 just for fun if yous can practice a side-by-side. I did and ended up with the CR120. and saved $1,200

Agree the CR120 is just every bit good as a Rockerverb at much lower cost. I also agree about a unmarried EVM12L being the best speaker (and I've tried many speakers with this amp).
